What is the Ice Zone and Playing for Success?
Playing for Success is a DCSF initiative working in partnership with schools and professional sports clubs to motivate young people to participate in additional learning experiences. The purpose of Playing for Success is to raise standards in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT by building pupil confidence and self esteem. Using the environment and medium of sport as a motivational tool pupils are given the opportunity to attain, develop and refine skills enabling them to access and obtain greater knowledge and understanding across the whole curriculum.
"Playing For Success showcases the council's commitment to providing the highest quality study support and extended learning opportunities in partnership with schools and professional sports club to motivate young people within Telford & Wrekin" Paul Wiseman, Extended Learning Manager.

On Friday 20th March we became successful and gained Established Status in the Quality in Study Support programme. This involved putting a portfolio of work together, which was evaluated by other Playing for Success Centre Managers, doing a presentation about the work of the Ice Zone and answering questions from our peers. We were commended for both our portfolio and our presentation. Congratulations Ice Zone!

Ice Zone Latest News

The spring term has seen the addition of a new room, located directly below the Ice Zone. Ice Zone 2 has been fully kitted out with equipment and activities to continue the Ice Zone experience and is only a few metres away from the ice pad. It has played host to a group of children from Holmer Lake Primary School. It also acts as an excellent break out room from the Ice Zone Study Centre and a useful meeting space for the Ice Zone and ice rink staff.
